About Creation, I Care

Welcome to Creation, I Care! This website is an outgrowth of the teaching of Dr. Joel C. Hunter, senior pastor of Northland, A Church Distributed. Dr. Hunter has become a nationally known spokesperson for issues related to Creation Care, which he teaches is one of the “Compassion Issues” outlined in Scripture: including Sanctity of Life, Creation Care, Justice, Poverty, and Marriage and the Family.

“Traditionally, evangelicals have focused on ‘below the belt’ issues such as abortion and the redefinition of marriage,” Dr. Hunter explains. “These are critical issues that we must not ignore; but we must also address these other issues if we’re going to truly love our neighbors as Christ commands, caring as much for the vulnerable outside the womb as inside the womb. These are issues that transcend the labels of conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat.”

Northland has discovered that caring for creation can actually contribute to cost savings in the long run. For example, the church recently switched its weekly congregational newspaper over to recycled paper, which by itself will save the church thousands of dollars.

The Task Force has completed a waste composition study and has been exploring how the church can reduce the carbon footprint of its new 3,300-seat sanctuary at Northland at Longwood.

The goal of all this is “to take what we’re learning and share it with others. The benefits from this can be applied at churches all across the country," concludes Raymond Randall, who heads the group on a volunteer basis. (You can read Raymond’s story and stories from other Task Force members in the “Why Do I Care?” section of this website.)

Northland, A Church Distributed, is an innovative congregation that utilizes technology to connect Christians through concurrent worship. Every weekend, up to 7,000 people worship concurrently at sites throughout Central Florida; additionally, the church averages 1,400 connections throughout the world via Northland’s live Webstream Worship.
